  • Interested applicants should know that, Original Online Application Window: 27 February 2026 to 20 March 2026 (superseded)
  • Merit List Validity: Previously tied to demand letters received up to 30.09.2026 - this condition has been withdrawn per the 24.08.2026 amendment notice; no revised validity period is specified in the notice
PSSSB Group-D Vacancy 2026 - Department & Post-wise Details
  • Candidates should note that, As per Annexure-A of the amendment notice dated 24.08.2026, 1401 Group-D positions have been received from the following Punjab Government departments, across 40 post designations (mainly Sewadar, Chowkidar, along with various Animal Husbandry Department field posts).
  • Total: 1401 posts , as stated in Annexure-A of the corrigendum.
  • The category-wise (overall) reservation breakup across all 1401 posts, per Annexure-A, is as follows:
  • The Annexure as well gives a gender-wise (women-reserved) split within each of the above categories in addition to department/post combinations; this level of detail is not reproduced here for readability however is available in the authorized corrigendum document.
PSSSB Group-D Eligibility Criteria
  • Educational qualification for Group-D posts is governed by the Punjab State (Group-D) Service Rules, 1963, as amended:
  • Matriculation standard, with Punjabi language as one of the subjects, from a recognized educational institution
  • This educational qualification condition does not submit to: (i) blind persons; (ii) riot/terrorist-affected persons; (iii) persons appointed as Sweeper
  • Separately, all test-takers must pass a qualifying Punjabi Language test equivalent to Matriculation standard with a minimum of 50% marks - this is mandatory as well as qualifying in nature; failing to secure 50% in this test disqualifies the candidate from the final merit list regardless of their score in other papers
PSSSB Group-D Salary
  • Chosen applicants will draw pay in the scale of ₹18,000–56,900 (Level-1, as per 7th Pay Commission). Initial pay along with other allowances are governed by the Punjab Finance Department (Personnel-1 Branch) letter No. 7/204/2012-4FP1/66 dated 15.01.2015, along with subsequent instructions issued from time to time.
PSSSB Group-D Application Fee
  • Fee once paid is non-refundable under any circumstances, along with no fee waiver is given to any candidate.
PSSSB Group-D Age Limit
  • Age is reckoned as on 01 January 2026:
  • Minimum age (all categories): 18 years
  • Maximum age (General category): 37 years
  • Maximum age for Punjab-resident SC as well as BC aspirants : 42 years
  • The conducting body has announced that, Maximum age for State/Central Government employees (with relaxation): 45 years - an NOC from their department is required at counseling
  • According to the latest notice, Punjab-resident Ex-Servicemen: upper age limit as stated in the Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982, as amended
  • Interested applicants should know that, Punjab-resident Divyang (disabled) test-takers: 47 years (10-year relaxation)
  • Widows, divorcees, in addition to certain other categories of married women: relaxed up to 40 years, per Government of Punjab letter No. 1/50/83-5PP(1368)/3454 dated 23.04.1984
PSSSB Group-D Selection Process
  • The conducting body has announced that, Selection is through an Objective-type (Multiple Choice Questions) written examination, in two parts:
  • Part A: Matriculation-standard Punjabi language paper - qualifying in nature only; applicants must score a minimum of 50% to qualify
  • Part B: Determines the merit list; each question carries 1 mark, with negative marking of 1/4 mark for each wrong answer
  • The Common Merit List is prepared based solely on Part-B marks
  • Aspirants are advised that, In case of a tie in Part-B marks, the candidate with the earlier date of birth (older in age) ranks higher; if age is furthermore equal, the candidate with a higher percentage in the required educational qualification ranks higher
  • Aspirants are advised that, applicants are shortlisted from the merit list for document verification/counseling; the number called is decided by the Board
  • Successful test-takers at counseling are recommended to the respective department according to the Common Merit List along with category-wise post availability
  • Entry passes are issued only online via the Board's website; the examination format/syllabus is as well uploaded there
  • According to the latest notice, Qualifying in the exam, appearing for counseling, or featuring in the merit list does not by itself guarantee recommendation for a post - qualification must be proven with documents
How to Apply for PSSSB Group-D Recruitment 2026
  • Access the Board's website, https://sssb.punjab.gov.in, in addition to click the " register Online" link (applications are accepted online only, from 25 August 2026 to 04 September 2026 for this re-opened window).
  • The conducting body has announced that, New test-takers click "Registration" as well as fill in their details to generate a User ID (their registered email ID) in addition to Password; existing aspirants log in directly.
  • Fill in personal, educational, as well as other required details accurately as well as completely; upload a passport-size photo (or capture live via camera) along with a scanned signature.
  • Click "Save Draft" or "Next", then "Attach Annexure" to upload scanned copies of the 10th certificate, educational qualification certificates, in addition to other mandatory documents; click "Save Documents".
  • Click "Make Payment" in addition to pay the applicable fee online.

PSSSB Group-D Important Instructions
  • Category as well as category code, once entered, cannot be changed at any stage - aspirants should fill the online form carefully.
  • Interested applicants should know that, Reservation benefit is available only to residents of Punjab; a Domicile/Residence Certificate not older than 5 years (as on the date of counseling) must be produced.
  • SC/BC/EWS/ESM/Divyang/Sportsperson certificates must conform to prevailing Punjab Government instructions along with be produced as proof at every stage the Board requires.
  • test-takers are advised to send in online themselves; errors made while using third-party or cyber café assistance will not be corrected under any circumstances.
  • Only the candidate's own mobile number in addition to email address may be used in the application.
  • All recruitment-related updates (exam schedule, examination permit, result, merit list, notices) will be published only on the Board's website - no individual communication will be sent; applicants must confirm the website regularly.
  • Educational certificates in addition to their verified copies, dated prior to the date of application, must be presented at counseling; without these, the candidate will not be considered as well as the next shortlisted candidate on the merit list will be recommended instead.
  • If any document is later found false at any stage, the candidate's name will be removed from the merit list, their criteria cancelled, along with legal action may follow as per rules.
  • The conducting body has announced that, No TA/DA is paid for appearing in the pen- along with -paper test or counseling.
