KPSC KAS Selection Process 2026
- In line with the authorized announcement, the KPSC KAS Gazetted Probationers Recruitment 2026 recruitment process has two examination stages followed by an interview:
- Preliminary Examination: An objective-type (MCQ) screening test comprising two papers. test-takers are admitted to Mains in a ratio of 1:15 against notified positions , category-wise. Marks scored in the Prelims are used only to shortlist aspirants for the Mains they are not counted in the final merit.
- The official notification states that, Main Examination: A descriptive descriptive test consisting of seven papers two qualifying language papers (Kannada as well as English) as well as five compulsory papers (Essay along with General Studies I-IV).
- The department has confirmed that, Personality Test (Interview): aspirants are called for interview in a ratio of 1:3 against notified openings , based on Mains merit, category-wise. The interview carries 25 marks.
- Final merit is based on the combined score of the Essay as well as four General Studies papers (1,250 marks) plus the Personality Test (25 marks), for a total of 1,275 marks. The Kannada in addition to English qualifying papers are not counted toward merit, though applicants must clear the qualifying minimum in each.

KAS Prelims Exam Pattern 2026
- The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type (multiple-choice) papers, each carrying 100 questions of 2 marks each, for a maximum of 200 marks in addition to a duration of 2 hours per paper. The combined Prelims total is 400 marks.
- The conducting body has announced that, Negative marking: One-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer. If a candidate marks more than one answer to a question, it is treated as wrong along with penalised the same way. No penalty applies to unattempted questions.
- Standard of questions: General Mental Ability questions are set at the SSLC/10th standard level; all other Prelims topics are at degree level. Question papers are set in both Kannada along with English.
KAS Mains Exam Pattern 2026
- The Main Examination is a descriptive (conventional) test comprising seven papers two qualifying papers along with five compulsory papers, all of which must be attempted.

1. KAS Prelims Paper I Syllabus
- (A) General Studies related to National along with International Importance
- Current events of national as well as international importance
