Selection process

  1. Recruitment is "by Selection" - primarily interview-based. Mere possession of the essential qualification does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
  2. Where the number of applications is large, UPSC may apply shortlisting criteria: Desirable Qualifications, higher educational qualification, higher/relevant experience, or by holding a Recruitment Test (RT).
  3. Minimum level of suitability in interview (out of 100 marks): UR – 50 marks, OBC – 45 marks, SC/ST/PH – 40 marks.
  4. Where a Recruitment Test (RT) precedes the interview, candidates must clear the minimum suitability level at both the RT and interview stages.
  5. Recruitment Test/Combined Recruitment Test (if held) will ordinarily be conducted at: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam (for the Ladakh post: Leh, Kargil, Srinagar, and Delhi).
  6. Shortlisted candidates must send self-attested copies of documents/certificates as and when demanded by the Commission.
  7. Summoning for interview does not guarantee selection. Appointment orders are issued by the Government after final selection.
  8. UPSC may grant higher initial pay to candidates adjudged meritorious in the interview.
