Route A: A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the relevant/allied subject from an Indian university (or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university), AND a qualifying NET conducted by UGC/CSIR, or an equivalent state-level test (SLET/SET) accredited by UGC - subject to exemption for candidates awarded a PhD as per UGC (Minimum Standards for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 (and subsequent amendments), provided specified conditions relating to regular-mode PhD, external examiners, open viva-voce, published papers, and presented conference papers are met and certified by the university. | Route B: A PhD in the relevant subject obtained (at any time) from a foreign university/institution ranked in the world's top 500 as per QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education (THE), or Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai) rankings.

1. The written examination consists of 120 objective-type (multiple-choice) questions - 30 questions on General Knowledge and 90 questions on the relevant subject.
2. Duration of the written examination is 2 hours.
3. Each correct answer carries 3 marks; 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer or multiple answers marked for a single question (negative marking).
4. Candidates are shortlisted for interview based on written examination marks; being called for interview or merely appearing in/passing the written exam does not by itself entitle a candidate to final selection.
5. In case of a tie in merit, precedence is given first to higher written exam marks, then interview marks, then the highest percentage in the essential qualification/PhD-JRF-NET combination as specified, and finally to the older candidate (higher age).
6. College allotment/preference (Adhikaranata) for appointment is decided by the Director of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj.
