BHEL Apprentice Qualification Category Qualification Marks Required Graduate Apprentice 10+2 and full-time graduation in the relevant discipline (Engineering/Technology, B.Com for Accountant, B.A for Assistant-HR) from a Government recognized institution 60% (UR/OBC-NCL/EWS), 50% (SC/ST) Technician Apprentice High School pass and full-time Diploma in Engineering from a Government recognized institute, completed in the last 5 years 60% (UR/OBC-NCL/EWS), 50% (SC/ST) Trade Apprentice High School pass and full-time ITI pass from an NCVT/SCVT recognized institute (NCVT only for Welder trade) Not specified in the notification Only candidates who completed their qualifying course (Degree/Diploma/ITI) in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026 are eligible; qualifications via Distance Learning, Part-Time, Correspondence, or Sandwich courses are not considered. Candidates already undergoing or having completed apprenticeship elsewhere under the applicable Apprentices Act, or with one year or more of work experience, are not eligible. Graduate Apprentice applicants who hold a postgraduate qualification (including an integrated PG course) are also not eligible, as per the NATS process manual. Age limit in full
The age limit is common across all three categories: minimum 18 years and maximum 27 years, as on 1 August 2026, for General category candidates. Selection process
- Selection is based on fulfilling the conditions specified in the respective notification.
- A merit list is drawn based on marks secured in the qualifying examination (Degree/Diploma/ITI marks, as applicable).
- In case of a tie in marks, the candidate older in age is preferred.
- Selected candidates must meet the minimum physical fitness standards under Clause 4 of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, and any amendments.
- No TA/DA is paid for certificate verification or for joining the training upon selection.
